Deer Journal is a record-keeping tool, not a safety device.
The mapping is not a navigation or safety aid
Boundaries, pins and offline maps in the app are approximate, and may be incomplete or out of date. Do not rely on them to navigate, to judge a safe shot or backstop, or to decide where you have permission to shoot. Carry proper navigation, and satisfy yourself of your position and your boundaries on the ground.
You remain responsible for shooting safely and lawfully
Follow current recognised best practice, the terms of your own permissions, authorisations and qualifications, and the law where you are stalking. Nothing in the app changes those obligations.
It does not replace any legal record-keeping obligation
Where the law requires you to keep records, make returns or complete documentation, that duty remains yours.
You are responsible for the accuracy of any return or record you produce from the app
The app helps you keep and format your records. It does not check them, and it cannot know what your circumstances require.
Best practice guidance
Wild Deer Best Practice Guidance — Scotland's best practice guidance, produced by a steering group including NatureScot, ADMG, BASC and the British Deer Society. The site links to the parallel guides for England and Wales and for Ireland.
